What you Eat Feeds Disease or Fights Disease. What are you Putting in Your Mouth?

The other day I was recording a video and my son said, “mom you sound like a boring biology teacher. No one wants to hear a boring biology teacher. Be you! Well I was a boring biology teacher that loves the natural world. I love thinking about how cells, body processes work together and the science behind it. I love when things grow. When the little sprout comes out of the ground or a bud starts to bloom.

I know I am strange but I actually think about how our cells communicate. So if I expose myself to certain chemicals, I think about how these chemicals can bind to our cell receptors and create change.

I know I am not going to live forever but the other day my kids were talking about how I have only lived half of my adult life (the Lord willing). Well if I have another 30+ years to live, I want to do that with gusto! I don’t want to feel like crap! I know that everything we eat either feeds disease or fights disease.  So if I can’t pronounce the words on the package, I am going to be a wary that those ingredients are going to fight disease.

Do you know that 80% of a typical American diet has proinflammatory foods and only 20% that are anti-inflammatory? Also a constant state of stress spikes our cortisol levels, which also causes inflammation. Put those 2 together…a high inflammatory diet and high cortisol and now you have the answer as to why we live in a country that has the best medical advances in the world yet we have the most disease in the world. The root of all disease is inflammation. Chronic inflammation leads to heart disease, diabetes, cancer, arthritis, and colitis. All of these quietly develop in your body. So ask the question? Is this feeding or fighting disease.
